Gandy Blvd. reopens after fatal accident
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Gandy Boulevard finally reopened after a fatal accident closed the westbound lanes just into Pinellas County for several hours Friday evening.
Florida Highway Patrol confirmed there was a fatal crash in the westbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard. The view from FDOT cameras showed westbound traffic pulling into the median to head east.
FHP released a report of its initial investigation of the crash. Troopers said a Rav 4 was going east on Gandy Blvd., crossed into the grass median and began to roll into westbound lanes of traffic.
The Rav 4 collided with a Mazda 3 and a Ford F150. The drivers of the Mazda and the Ford were not injured.
The driver of the Rav 4 died at the scene. FHP said troopers were working to notify their next-of-kin.
