Governor-elect DeSantis on 'Thank You' tour

Florida's new Governor-elect Ron DeSantis hit the road Saturday, but he's not campaigning.

DeSantis kicked off his 'Thank You' tour in New Port Richey Saturday morning, joined by Attorney General-elect Ashley Moody.

"I don't know if you know this, but we won the state of Florida because of Pasco County," Moody cheered to an energetic crowd inside of the Spartan Manor Banquet Hall.

DeSantis also touched on his first 100 days in office, adding that appointments to the Florida Supreme Court will take priority.

"I'm already looking at these applications and these 11 names for the supreme court of Florida. That's 3 appointments," DeSantis said.

In the last 16 years, under two governors, there have only been two Supreme Court appointments.

DeSantis will have to fill three open seats.

"I think it's important that we're selecting people who understand that the rule of law respects the separation of powers, so I'm working hard on that," he commented.

Supporters that sat in the audience Saturday morning say his message and agenda connect with them.

"Pretty much everything that he likes - we agree with. He's hardworking, he put himself through college and that matters," explained New Port Richey resident Kristen Moore.

Phillip Aleci, another New Port Richey resident, told FOX 13 that he worked on DeSantis' campaign and noted his relationship with the president as a positive for the state. "He was the best man for the job. I trust him, and I think he has good contacts with our president," Aleci said.

The 'Thank You' tour also made stops in Lady Lake and Port Orange.

Future tour stops have not been released.
