Hernando girl hit by SUV at bus stop

BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) - A Moton Elementary School student was hospitalized after a driver reportedly lost control and hit her as she was getting onto the school bus Wednesday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened just before 8 a.m. on State Road 50, near Red Bud Lane.
The driver, 37-year-old Laura Demers, was reportedly driving in the outside lane, when suddenly another car turned in front of her. Crash investigators say she quickly switched lanes to avoid the car, then switched back, and ended up spotting the stopped school bus a little too late.
She tried to stop, but lost control and ended up heading into the shoulder, where she ran into the 9-year-old.
The girl was said to have minor injuries, but was airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Demers was ticketed for careless driving.
