A resident in a burning apartment building rescued another resident from their second-story apartment on Holly Lea Court Wednesday.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responded to the complex and found smoke and flames coming from the roof.

HCFR later said resident Damian Baez had rescued someone whose second-floor apartment was burning. The two were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Neighbor David Baldwin told FOX 13 News he would have been grateful if the rescued woman was his relative.

"People outside were screaming there was an old lady in there," Baldwin recalled."Great citizen. I would have been grateful if it was my grandma, and someone ran in to get her."

No other injuries were reported, but 15 residents from 8 units were displaced. The American Red Cross was helping those victims with temporary lodging and necessary items.

HCFR said crews from the Temple Terrace Fire Department and Tampa Fire Rescue helped put out the fire and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office helped secure the scene.

The HCFR Fire Investigator was on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
