Hillsborough YMCA gymnasts take national title
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Local gymnasts strut their stuff at a national competition, showing us all what it takes to have a winning edge.
"Pull your feet together and bend your knees and jump," described Gabrielle Garcia.
Garcia trains gymnasts at the Hillsborough YMCA. Top Fight Gymnastics is the Y's competitive team.
"We are definitely a growing program and I think the Y is the place to be in gymnastics these days," Gabrielle said.
The team recently took first place at the YMCA's National Championship in Savannah, Georgia, beating more than 30 other teams.
"It was really fun. I enjoyed it a lot," 12-year-old old Baleigh Pennington said. "Everybody has the same passion."
Jenny Teixeira, a 17-year-old gymnast added, "Everybody is there for the same purpose. It's great to be a part of."
These young ladies are focused, physically and mentally, for success.
"We work so hard. Endless hours," Garcia said. "It feels like finally, they got what they worked for... I'm beyond proud of them."
