Infant dies in Tampa mobile home fire
TAMPA (FOX 13) - A family is grieving the loss of a 9-month-old boy who died in a mobile home fire Wednesday evening.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says the baby was being cared for by his great-grandmother when the fire started. The great-grandmother, 67-year-old Barbara Weidman, was able to escape the flames.
It happened just after 6 p.m. at a mobile home on Marc Drive in Tampa.
When firefighters got to the scene, they were told a baby was still inside the mobile home. They say heavy smoke and flames were coming from the front of the structure.
The infant victim was found by firefighters during a search of the home.
Hillsborough County Fire Investigators, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to the scene to investigate.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
