Jogger struck by lightning in Indian Shores
INDIAN SHORES (FOX 13) - For the second time this week, a beachgoer has been injured by lightning. This time, it was a man jogging along Indian Shores.
Fire officials say the man was jogging by a pier in the area of 18500 Gulf Boulevard, which is the site of a beach condo. He told rescuers he saw a bright strike of lightning, then fell to ground. Bystanders pulled him under the pier.
He was later taken to the hospital. His condition was not immediately available but officials said they did not believe his injuries were life-threatening.
A severe thunderstorm warning was later issued for much of Pinellas County as heavy rains and more dangerous lightning pummeled the coast.
Tuesday, two teenagers were struck by lightning along Clearwater Beach. They are both expected to survive, thanks in part to a vacationing nurse who immediately rushed to their aid.
