Man accidentally takes $1,635 Uber ride through several states

A New Jersey man was responsible to request an Uber after a night of drinking, but it costed him about $1,635.

Kenny Bachman was partying with his friends in Morgantown, West Virginia last Friday, according to NJ.com. The 21-year-old thought he requested an Uber to transport him back to where he was staying near West Virginia University’s campus.

Instead, Bachman told the newspaper, he blacked out, and after two hours he finally woken up to learn the Uber driver was taking him home -- back to New Jersey, which is more than 300 miles away.

"Afterwards I had it fully sink in," Bachman said to NJ Advance Media. "Once the ride ended and I saw how much it was when I was like 'Alright, this is insane, that's just crazy.'"

The grand total for the Uber ride was $1,635.93. According to NJ.com, it includes: $3.94 base fair, a $2.35 booking fee, $696.95 for distance, and $115.90 for time. It was also more expensive because Bachman ordered an UberXL, which is more pricier than the UberX and can hold up to six passengers. It could have costed him $819.14, but there was surge pricing on the night of his Uber ride, which doubles every charge, except for the booking fee.

Uber confirmed to NJ.com that the ride did occur, and the company later touched base with Bachman, who ended up paying the fee.

When Bachman returned to New Jersey, he gave his Uber driver money for tolls, NJ.com reports, and a five-star rating through the app.
