Man dead in deputy-involved accident on I-275
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that occurred on I-275 near I-4 late Wednesday night. The crash involved both a motorcycle and a deputy who works for the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
According to FHP, 38-year-old Joel Matthew Shubert was riding his Suzuki motorcycle southbound on I-275 at 11:37 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle. He collided into the center barrier wall that separates the north- and southbound lanes. Shubert was ejected from the motorcycle and over the barrier into northbound traffic.
Jane Hanna, a 26-year-old Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy, was driving her patrol car in the northbound lane at the time of the crash, and ran over Shubert as he lay in the road.
Shubert died on the scene.
