Man jumps from I-4 overpass during traffic stop

A routine traffic stop turned into a trip to the hospital for one man.

Tampa Police say just after 2 A.M. Monday morning they pulled a man over on eastbound I-4 near the overpass for East Columbus Drive and North 50th Street. During that stop a D.U.I. investigator was called to help out. While they were administering a field sobriety test the driver started to run from officers and jumped from the I-4 overpass to the grassy median 70 feet below.

The driver suffered fractures to his right femur and left wrist and was transported to a local hospital. He is expected to be okay.

Criminal charges are pending.
