Man killed while loading bike on Pinellas County bus

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH (FOX 13) - Gulf Boulevard in Indian Rocks Beach was closed for several hours while deputies investigated a fatal crash involving a wrong-way driver. 

Just before 2:00 p.m., a PSTA trolley was stopped in a designated bus stop just where Michael Joe Richardson was placing his bicycle on the bike rack. A car, driven by 58-year-old David Schwab, crossed the southbound lane and struck the bus head on. 

Richardson sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center. He later died from his injuries. No one else on the bus was injured. 

Investigators say that impairment appears to be a factor in the crash. Criminal charges are pending for Schwab.
