Man posing as Navy veteran arrested

Hillsborough deputies arrested a man for posting as a naval officer and asking people for money.

Investigators arrested Freemane Brown, 54, at his home Thursday and charged him with soliciting while misrepresenting a military uniform and insignia.

He was booked into jail on a $2,000 bond.

A concerned citizen called the sheriff's office of Brown aggressively asking for money for veterans at the Wawa on Bearss last week, deputies say.

"After questioning for a short period of time he admitted that he had bought all of the items from a navy army surplus store," Detective Larry McKinnon said.

Brown was never a Naval Officer, never a Navy Seal or a member of Seal Team Six, yet deputies say, he initially told them he was.

He surrendered someone else's medals, awards and achievements when he was arrested.
