A Manatee County deputy, headed home from an overnight shift, was killed in a car crash Thursday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 7 a.m. in Palmetto.  Troopers say a pickup truck tried to make a left turn from Moccasin Wallow Road onto Bud Rhoden Road but drove into the path of an oncoming Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep slammed into the truck and overturned.  The Jeep's driver, Corrections Deputy Shaun Feverston, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said Feverston, 28, was on his way home from work at the time of the crash.

“Thoughts and prayers to Shaun's family,” the agency tweeted.

The pickup truck driver, George Grigsby of Palmetto, was cited for making an improper left turn.
