McDonald's, IBM team up to develop automated drive-thru lanes

IBM and the golden arches are looking to take drive-thrus into the future with automated order taking.

A new deal allows for IBM to acquire McD Tech Labs, and helps McDonald’s perfect its automated drive-thru system.

The fast-food chain has already started testing out the system in restaurants around the Chicago area.

Company leaders say the technology fulfills orders with 85% accuracy.

With help from IBM, McDonald’s hopes to expand the systems language, dialect, and menu variation competency.

Previous reports say it will take about two years for the system to be used at all locations.
