Odessa Target store one of 13 closing nationwide

Target announced Wednesday it will close 13 stores across the country, including the Super Target in Odessa off of the Veteran's Expressway.

The store, along with the other locations, will close on January 30.

A company spokesperson said the decision to close the stores was made based on projections for long-term profitability.

Employees will be given the option to transfer to nearby stores, the company said.

Shoppers in Odessa told FOX 13 they'll miss the convenience of that location. There are two other Target stores within a 15-minute drive of the Odessa location.

"I'm sad that it's closing. Like I say it's convenient. I have small kids I go buy toys here. That's good prices. So yea I'm going to miss it," said shopper Leszek Horodecki.

Shoppers have even filed an online petition in an effort to save the store. More than 1,500 people have already signed the document.
