PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A felon was arrested in Pinellas Park Tuesday after an investigation that began last year for multiple drug crimes, including the near-death of his child who accidentally consumed fentanyl and overdosed, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department.
What we know:
Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration say Rayshawn Smith, 31, was involved in distributing dangerous drugs over several months in 2025. During that time, Smith’s infant ingested fentanyl in November 2025, requiring emergency medical treatment.
On Jan. 14, detectives searched Smith’s home. Officials say detectives seized illegal narcotics, guns and drug paraphernalia.
Smith has been indicted on the following charges:
- Distribution of controlled substances resulting in great bodily injury
- Possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime
- Drug distribution
- Felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition
Smith is currently being held at the Pinellas County Jail.
What we don't know:
Police did not provide an update on the infant’s current condition, only saying that it was a near-death experience.
