Police: Great-grandmother murdered, killer on the run
MONROE, Ga. - Monroe Police call a man armed and dangerous after they believe he brutally shot and killed a 68-year-old woman and great-grandmother to his child.
Police said Linda Flint, 68, was gunned down in her relative's apartment Wednesday and died at Piedmont Walton Hospital. Investigators identified 30-year-old Sergio Moon as the culprit and are still searching for a motive in the crime.
"It kind of shocks the soul," said Chief Kieth Glass. "You have to consider him dangerous when he's suspected of taking his child's great-grandmother's life," he said.
Police said Wednesday, shortly before 3 p.m. at an apartment complex off West Marable Street, the 911 call to officers initially reported a robbery and someone shot; first responders found Flint in the home and rushed her to the hospital, where she died an hour later. Police said she was shot at the home of a relative.
Investigators said they have heard of several possible motives for the crime, but are still working to determine the reason someone would shoot and kill the senior citizen.
"It's so so sad... I could see a young person-- but 68?" said Margaret Taylor, a lifelong friend of Flint from grade school who lived several doors down from the scene of the crime. "I hope they catch him," Taylor said.
Police are searching for Moon, but also hope he will turn himself in. He is 5'11", 150 pounds, with black hair and hazel eyes. If you see him, do not approach him and call 911 immediately.
