Polk sheriff, deputies surprise elderly man with bike
LAKELAND, Fla. - Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd showed up at a home in Lakeland on Thursday, but he wasn't there to make an arrest. He was there to make a very special delivery to an elderly resident.
Someone stole 80-year-old Denvil Whitaker's bike right off his front porch.
He told deputies he had always chained his blue three-wheeled bike to the front porch because he couldn't walk very far and he uses his bike to walk his dog.
The thief took the bike sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. Monday, June 6.
Fortunately, an anonymous donor stepped up to give Mr. Whitaker a new bike on Thursday. A deputy on the bike followed by a Polk County Sheriff's cruiser rode up to Mr. Whitaker's home to deliver it, and Sheriff Judd knocked on his door. Mr. Whitaker took a ride on the brand new three-wheeler and it appears to be a perfect fit.
Meantime, anyone with information about the theft should call the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
