Power line accident injures St. Pete worker
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Power is out in part of St. Petersburg after an apparent construction accident that left a worker injured.
FOX 13's Dan Matics reported hearing a "loud explosion" downtown along 2nd Street North just before the outage. There appears to be building material across a power line there.
St. Pete Fire Rescue says a worker was carrying a gutter up ladder, and the gutter came in contact with a power line, sending 7,200 volts of electricity through the man's body. He was blown off the ladder and his clothes were burned.
The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Duke Energy is on scene, as is St. Pete Fire Rescue.
