Red carpet rolled out for 'The Infiltrator' premiere

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa rolled out the red carpet Wednesday night for the world premiere of Bryan Cranston's new movie 'The Infiltrator,' much of which was shot here in the Bay Area.

The film Cranston, Diane Kruger and Benjamin Bratt, and will hit theaters nationwide on July 13.

It's based on the true story that follows U.S. Customs Agent Robert Mazur, played by Cranston, as he helps bust a money laundering ring involving Pablo Escobar. Mazur was originally a Tampa resident before going undercover in the 1980s.

Several parts of the movie were filmed at various locations in Tampa, including at the Port of Tampa. Cranston said he enjoyed his time here, especially running along the bay in the mornings.

He hopes, though, that audiences will connect with his character and leave the theater marveling at the true story.

"How did he live that life?  How was he able to be Bob Marcella -- undercover money launderer for the Medellin cartel -- and then check out and go home and be husbands and father and keep all of this information to himself."

Cranston also joked about the time he fell asleep at FOX 13 back in the 1990s, while on a press tour for the FOX show 'Malcolm in the Middle.'

"Very comfortable couch in your green room," he joked.  "Coffee was not as good as the couch, and I hid a $100 bill in the cushion.  I have not gone back to see if it's still there."
