Scammers posed as victim's grandson for Walmart gift cards, deputies say
WESLEY CHAPEL (FOX 13) - Pasco County deputies are asking the public to keep an eye out for a pair of scammers, who posed as the victim’s grandson.
Investigators say last October, someone called the victim, pretending to be his grandson, claiming they were involved in an accident and needed money for legal fees.
The suspects convinced the victim to buy Walmart gift cards, and then gave the numbers to the grandson’s supposed attorney. There is no word on how much money were on the gift cards.
The cards were used at the Walmart at 28500 State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel. Deputies released surveillance images of the suspected duo. Anyone with information on their identities are asked to call the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-706-2488.
