Shooting at Tampa strip club leaves 1 dead, 7 injured
Eight people were shot inside a Tampa gentlemen's club early Saturday morning. One of the victims was killed.
Several shots were fired shortly after 2 :00 a.m. at Club Rayne, 8123 N. Nebraska Avenue, in the Sulphur Springs area.
According to witnesses, a dispute broke out between club patrons. As the club DJ worked to calm the situation, a man pulled out a gun, firing several shots.
Tampa Police said an estimated 300 people were inside the club at the time of the incident. Most of them ran towards the front exit to escape the gunfire.
"It was like a stampede. People were stepping over each other. Some people had to go to the hospital for injuries of just being stomped," said Juno Davis, an employee at the club. "When the people got off of my body, because there were about 19 people on me, there was a guy sitting up, slumped over, with a bullet [in his head], a lady was shot in the leg and a guy was laying down on the ground."
The victim killed in the shooting is 21-year-old Marvin Douglass Lancaster, of Brandon.
A Periscope account under the same name was live streaming from inside Club Rayne as the shooting occurred. The video abruptly stops about five seconds after the shots are fired.
Among the seven other gunshot victims who survived, three are women and four are under 21, not of age to be inside a strip club. The victims were identified as: Restaycia Carnegie, 20, Sheila McFadden, 17, Lancinet Stephens, 20, Equanzick Howell, 28, Jose Humphrey, 32, Christopher Houston, 20, and Mekyala Mann, 24.
Tampa Police shutdown a block of N North Nebraska Avenue for five hours as crime scene investigators gathered evidence, both inside and outside of the club. Several witnesses were interviewed, and a white BMW was towed away from the scene.
Six of the shooting victims were taken to St Joseph's Hospital. The seventh victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital by a private vehicle.
