Skies over MacDill to get busier

MacDill Air Force Base is hosting some ‘tourists’ from up north this month, and things could get a little loud.

Officials warned Monday that neighbors of the South Tampa base might notice increased activity and noise because a visiting group of fighter planes.  A team of F/A-18 Hornets is visiting from Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The most active times will be between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The Air Force did not offer any more details, other than to say the jets would be here until June 23.

MacDill Air Force Base is home to the 6th Air Mobility Wing and its fleet of large tanker aircraft, in addition to U.S. Central Command and U.S. Special Operations Command.  NOAA’s ‘Hurricane Hunters’ relocated to Lakeland this year in order to make more room at MacDill for Air Force operations.
