Black Friday is for the big box stores. Cyber Monday is reserved for online retailers.

But Small Business Saturday is all about shopping local.

Most mom and pop shops do something special to attract business on Small Business Saturday, also known as Shop Local Saturday, but local store owners in St. Petersburg made an entire day of it.

Local Shops 1 brought together 150 local businesses for their Shopapalooza Festival on Saturday at South Staub Park.

It's estimated that consumers will spend over $720 million on holiday shopping, and when you shop local a majority of your dollar stays at home.

"Seventy cents of every dollar spent on local businesses stays in that particular community. So that's why we just eat, drink, shop local," says Pat Largo, spokesperson for Local Shops 1.

Consumers also appreciate the care that small business owners put into their merchandise.

"We love homemade things, handmade things and just the quality and to support the little guys," said Kim Saavedra of Lakeland.

Shopapalooza is a 2-day festival held on the Saturday before and after Thanksgiving. For more information visit https://www.localshops1.com/.
