Police say a pregnant Largo woman was injured after being attacked by her 17-year-old stepson in her home this morning.

Nathan Singhavong was taken to a juvenile facility in Clearwater Tuesday afternoon, less than 12 hours after the attack at his family's home on 9th St NW in Largo.

It was around 6 a.m. when the 42-year-old victim, who is 23 weeks pregnant, said she heard noises and got up to investigate. That's when her attacker chased her into the kitchen, where she fell to the floor.

She said he grabbed a knife and began to slash at her face.

The woman's elderly father, who also lives at the house, heard the commotion and tried to intervene, but was unable to fight off the assailant. Police say the woman played dead and the attacker left.

Police say later, Nathan was at the scene and an officer noticed he was wearing two different shoes. They also saw blood on one of them, so they began to question him.

Police say he was upset because this was to have been his first day at Largo High School. They say his father lives at the home but was out of town for work.

Nathan's step mom was taken to Morton Plant Hospital to be treated for cuts to her face and hands. Police say the unborn baby was not harmed.
