Stroke victims have a voice through art

A stroke can be debilitating, and in some cases, fatal. For many, it means the loss of speech and movement, but an event is giving stroke victims a voice through art.

John Dingman is a stroke survivor and one of the artists featured in "Strokes for Stroke."

The event features the artwork of stroke survivors to raise funds for the Stroke Association and awareness.

Art was a passion of Dingman's since high school. The stroke left him with a communication disorder. His wife said the art gives him an outlet.

"It really is a blessing because it gave him something to do", said Ann Dingman.

The Strokes for Stroke event will be held October 20th at the Morean Arts Center for Clay in St. Petersburg.
