SARASOTA, Fla. (FOX 13) - The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says they finally found 25-year-old Jeremy Neipert early Monday morning after an hours-long standoff.
The sheriff's office says multiple units responded to a home in the 800 block of Bacon Avenue around 11 a.m. Sunday. The incident began as a domestic dispute; victims say Neipert was armed with a gun and threatened to harm them. The man and woman inside the home fled and called 911.
People living nearby were asked to stay indoors, and members of the public were told to avoid the area. Deputies attempted to bring the suspect outside for more than 10 hours. Members of the SWAT team used various tactics including robots to locate the suspect in the home. However, upon entering the home, Neipert was not inside, prompting a search of nearby residential and commercial areas.
All lanes of Palmer Boulevard were shut down from Coleman to Gantt Avenues for most of the day.
A tactical unit finally found Neipert on Courtland Street. Deputies say when they took him into custody, he did have both of the weapons allegedly used in the Sunday morning assault.
Detectives say they have a warrant for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They do expect him to face more charges.
