There is no proof flossing works
LOS ANGELES, CA - Who else hates when their Dentist asks “when was the last time you flossed”? Especially because they really should know, they were there.
If you are dying to get the dentist out of your grill about flossing then we have news for you! The associated Press reported this week that, “there’s little proof that flossing works.”
Since 1979 the federal government has recommended flossing. But in it’s most recent Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the flossing recommendation was removed. According to the AP, “the government acknowledged the effectiveness of flossing had never been researched, as required."
Americans spend $448 Million on dental floss every year. That is bananas. So will that number drop drastically soon? If dentists keep recommending to floss, people will probably keep buying it.
Marcelo Araujo, the vice president of the American Dental Association Science Institute claims that, “This will trigger a great conversation between the patients and dentists.”
Yeah… we’re not sure we’re buying it Marcelo. Especially when anytime your dentist starts a conversation he waits until he’s got three tools in your mouth.
Down with flossing!!
