Two killed in crash on SR 54 in Pasco County
ZEPHYRHILLS (FOX 13) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an alcohol-involved crash that left two women dead early Sunday morning.
Troopers said the crash occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on State Road 54 near Evans Street in Zephyrhills.
According to investigators, 36-year-old Jonathan Haynes was driving his Infiniti westbound at a high rate of speed when he overtook a vehicle ahead of him. Haynes crashed into the back of an Oldsmobile driven by 24-year-old Hannah Nelson.
Both Haynes and Nelson's vehicles overturned, FHP said.
Nelson and one of her passengers, 24-year-old Ashley Plummer, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.
Haynes was also taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Troopers said he was under the influence when the crashed happened and charges are pending against him.
