Woman dies a week after being hit by stolen car in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - A woman from St. Petersburg died a week after being hit by a stolen car, according to police. 

St. Petersburg police say it started around 2 p.m. on November 24 when someone flagged down an officer to alert them to a "carload" of men in a Hyundai pointing a gun at someone.

The car was spotted driving at a high rate of speed on 18th Avenue South. Police said officers did not pursue the car, a Hyundai Sonata. 

A short while later, the Hyundai hit a PT Cruiser at the intersection of 18th Ave S. And 25th Street S. The car also took out a Duke Energy power pole

The 46-year-old female passenger in the PT Cruiser, Yalanda Speights, died a week later as a result of her injuries. Her mother, the 61-year-old female driver was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

All four people in the stolen vehicle tried to flee the scene. Three of them were arrested and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The fourth was on the run for a few hours, but police caught up with him and made the fourth arrest.

Charges are pending against the driver, Carl McKinley, 20; Lazarius Faulk,19; Clifford Washington, 19; and Jaquez Rouse, 18.

The area near 18th Avenue South is closed between 23rd and 28th Street South.
