Holmes Beach police say the driver of a Lamborghini was drunk when she crashed the quarter-million dollar vehicle. However, her attorney has a different story. He says his client was actually the designated driver

The Holmes Beach Police Department says 30-year-old Kiri Stewart was driving her 2016 Lamborghini Huracan near Gulf Drive and Manatee Avenue over the New Year’s holiday weekend.

It was 1:30 a.m. December 29 when she lost control and crashed.

“It rapidly accelerated to try and pass a car it spun out of control and crashed into a couple street signs,” said detective Brian Hall.

Dashcam video shows the powerful sports car's front end smashed to pieces. Luckily, neither Stewart, who owns a property management company, nor her passenger was hurt.

Police would put her through a battery of field sobriety tests and charged her with DUI with property damage.

“She was tired. She was on the way home,” insisted her attorney, Jason Miller.

Miller says she was not drunk at all, claiming she was actually the designated driver. He does admit she was driving tired and says sand on the road may have been a factor.

“She was out very late. She had worked all day and was the designated driver so she hadn't had anything to drink in any way that would impair her driving,” he said.

According to a police report, Stewart refused a breath test at the scene.
