Young 'kindness warrior' needs the votes to meet his idol, Ellen DeGeneres

A Tampa boy's wish to meet Ellen DeGeneres has taken one step closer to reality.

Eric Piburn, 11, has made it to ellenNation, a website featuring all sorts of great videos of kids, heartwarming moments, and, of course, deserving people. Piburn is under the "Deserving People" category and he hopes he gets enough votes. If he does, he'll be a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Eric was featured as a recent Extraordinary Ordinaries, a FOX 13 segment dedicated to, well, extraordinary people in the Bay Area. He has been in and out of the hospital since he was born. To keep himself busy, he has committed to doing random acts of kindness. He gives treats to cops and flowers to nurses. He also provides presents to other child patients, like himself.

Eric started a Facebook page, "Eric's Race to Ellen," and is challenging himself to do random acts of kindness all over town. He told FOX 13, her motto is similar to his motto: Be kind to one another.

"I want to do acts of kindness because most kids, sometimes like me, end up in the hospital and they don't have anything to keep them entertained until they go home," Eric said. "I want to give them acts of kindness so they can keep some stuff and when they get home they can have fun and hopefully not go in the hospital all the time."

If it's your first time on the website, it might be somewhat tricky to navigate. You have to first register or sign in if you already have a free account. Then, click the arrow pointing up at the top left-hand corner of his picture, which can be found here. Every vote counts for a young man who will eventually need a heart and double lung transplant.
