Steven Stamkos will remain with the Tampa Bay Lightning, at least for now.

The Bolts' star center, who becomes a free agent after this season, had been the subject of speculation as the league's February 29 trade deadline approached.

However, team general manager Steve Yzerman apparently wants to quell those rumors.

"I have said repeatedly that it is our hope to reach an agreement with Steven on a new contract at some point, and with 27 games remaining in the season, our entire organization, Steven included, wants to focus on making the playoffs," the statement credited to Yzerman read.

Yzerman won't have any further comments, the statement continued.

Stamkos will become a free agent July 1 if the team can't re-sign him.
