Tropical Storm Fiona forms in Atlantic
TAMPA (FOX 13) - The National Hurricane Center says a tropical depression moving over the central Atlantic has now strengthened into a tropical storm.
As of the 5 p.m. update, the newly named Tropical Storm Fiona had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph. Slow strengthening is expected.
The storm was centered about 920 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands and was moving northwest near 16 mph. Long-range forecasts have it continuing northwest in the Atlantic, staying away from Florida.
