51 horses removed from Florida farm; charges pending
LAKE BUTLER, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say they've removed more than 50 horses from a Florida farm in various stages of neglect.
A Union County Sheriff's Office news release said Monday that 51 animals have been moved from the self-proclaimed 40-acre horse rescue in Lake Butler to a Tallahassee veterinary hospital. The farm is located off of S.W. 100th Place in Lake Butler.
Officials say two horses were found dead on the property, and many others required immediate treatment. Deputies weren't immediately naming the property owner or the people suspected of neglecting the horses, but said animal cruelty charges and arrests are pending.
Deputies said they requested the assistance of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Surrounding agencies also helped collect evidence and remove the horses.
