An investigation is underway after someone set fire to a Bay area home overnight, causing an estimated $35,000 in damages.

Tampa Fire Rescue officials say crews were called to a duplex on North Lantana Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from one side of the duplex. No one was inside the blazing unit at the time, and residents on the other side of the duplex were able to get out safely.

Investigators later determined that whoever set fire to the home had broken in, stolen items, and then lit the couches on fire before taking off.

Officials are now working to track down the suspect.

In the meantime, the Red Cross has been called to assist the resident.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact the Fire Marshal's Office at (813) 274-7000.
