Big ball of hair ties found in pup's stomach

Something was ailing Burke, the English Pointer. He had no appetite and he couldn't keep food down.

The Burke family grew worried about their pup, so they took him to the Care Animal Hospital of Brandon where vets found not one, not two, but a 7 inch clump of hair ties stuck inside his belly.

The three-year-old dog was then taken to BluePearl in Brandon on Tuesday where a doctor had to surgically remove the hair ties. “I can’t even tell you how many there were,” said Dr. Salas, who is board-certified in veterinary surgery. “Burke was a trouper and he rebounded very quickly from the surgery… he’s full of life.”

The cost of the surgery was paid for by "Frankie's Friends," which helps to provide lifesaving care for pets whose families can't afford it.

The Burke family is thankful their best friend is home safe. In a letter to BluePearl, 9-year-old Dylan wrote: “Thank you so much for helping Burke. He means so much to me. I couldn’t live without him.” He added, “There will never be anything on the floor Burke can eat again.”
