Big Brothers Big Sisters feed linemen
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Sonia Rodriguez is leading by example.
She's brought her 9-year-old little sister and her friend from Big Brothers Big Sisters down to the Duke Energy staging area at Tampa Bay Downs to bring lunch to the utility crews working to restore power after Hurricane Irma.
"I'm teaching her how to give back to the community," said Rodriguez.
"This is amazing. We've had cars come all over from residents with homemade meals, sandwiches, crackers," said Bryan Buckler of Duke Energy.
12-year-old Michael Bynum and his friends brought water, soda, snacks, and ice to thank them for making their homes cool again.
"We have power now, but it was really hot inside", said Bynum.
"The support form the community has been overwhelming for our lineman and our contract workers", said Duke Energy spokesperson Peveeta Persaud.
Bynum and his friends may say it best for all of us.
"Thank you for leaving your families to come help ours," Bynum said.
