Boy dies after being hit by SUV in parking lot

TAMPA (FOX 13) - A middle school student, hit by an SUV while running to catch a school bus this morning, has died.

Deputies say Leonard Pineda ran into the path of a Ford Expedition at The Preserve at Mobbly Bay apartment complex, which is off West Hillsborough Avenue.  He hit his head when he was knocked to the ground.

Pineda, 12, was taken to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Pineda was a student at Farnell Middle School.

Deputies say their investigation continues.
