Business burglars smashing their way across Polk County
LAKELAND, Fla. (FOX 13) - The Polk County Sheriff's Office is searching for five thieves who broke into several local businesses over the past two days.
Surveillance video shows the suspects shattering the front glass door of the Nail Care & Spa in Davenport and getting away with the cash register and a "hot box" used to warm towels.
According to investigators, the thieves broke into the Destiny Barber Shop shortly after and then hit the Xtreme Wireless store in Lakeland.
The sheriff's office did not disclose how much money or valuables were stolen from the stores, but one store owner said he's out hundreds of dollars.
Brandon Ragsdale, who owns the Xtreme Wireless store, said he's estimating between $400 to $600 in stolen merchandise and believes he will have to pay much more to repair the broken glass door and cabinets.
"It could happen to anyone," said Ragsdale, who added he's surprised his store was hit given that it's right next to a 24-hour liquor store.
Despite it being an unfortunate way to end the year, Ragsdale said he's thankful the thieves didn't take more. He also encourages other business owners to lock away valuables at the end of each day.
"I'm glad that I've done that because this is a family business," said Ragsdale. "This is everything we have."
Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
