CDC reports female-to-male Zika transmission
NEW YORK (FOX 13) - The CDC is reporting a suspected case of female-to-male Zika transmission via the New York Health Department.
The couple had unprotected sex the day of her return from travel. The woman had mild symptoms while in the airport, complaining of abdominal pain and headache, but it wasn't until the day after she returned that she developed a rash, fatigue, joint pain, swelling and other symptoms. Her menses also began on the day after her return.
The woman saw her primary care doctor on day three and tested positive for the Zika virus.
Seven days after the couple had unprotected vaginal intercourse, her partner developed symptoms, including rash, pink eye, fever and joint pain. He also tested positive.
The CDC confirmed the positive test results for both partners.
