Dead bat is fourth rabies case in Polk County for 2019

A dead bat tested positive for rabies, which is the fourth case in Polk County this year.

The dead bat was found on Saturday inside a Lakeland home’s garage along Longleaf Circle. It was sent to a lab for testing and the results were in on Tuesday: the bat tested positive for rabies.

It appeared that no humans or animals were exposed to the bat prior to or after its death, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control department.

This year, there have been three prior confirmed rabies cases in Polk County.
