Deputies free struggling turtle caught in crab trap
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Two Jacksonville Sheriff's deputies were in the right place at the right time when they came across a struggling turtle while on their boat about two miles off the coast.
They spotted a Leatherback Sea Turtle entangled in a crab trap with the trap's rope around its neck. The buoy was still attached to the trap and every time the turtle moved, the rope tightened around its neck.
Lieutenant Steve Mullen was able to untangle the turtle, which was about nine-feet-long, from the crab trap while keeping it in the water.
Shortly afterward, the turtle quickly swam away.
