TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Buccaneers officially kicked off their Red Initiative at Raymond James Stadium. It faced some initial criticism when it was first launched, but there was none Thursday night.
"It's been a dream of mine for so many years," said Darcie Glazer Kassewitz. She helped create the Bucs new Red campaign. It's specifically aimed at women.
"This is very personal. As one of the female voices of my family, having beautiful wonderful programing is very important to me," Glazer Kassewitz said.
But the campaign hasn't been a PR touchdown. Back when the initiative was announced in August some mocked its execution. Some didn't like the style tips and home design projects . Some columnists called it flat out sexist.
There was no talk of that at Raymond James Stadium Thursday night.
"I think it's a great way for women to become more knowledgeable about the sport and participate," said season ticket holder Leann Moore.
"My son played and I learned a little bit. Now that I'm a big fan and season ticket holder I want to learn more," Joyce Stewart said.
Attendees learned straight from the pros. Former players like Brad Culpepper and Martin Gramatica went beyond the X's and O's. Christine Golic, wife of ESPN personality Mike Golic, was on hand to promote safe play on the youth level.
"I saw the negative comments that started about it and I was really taken back, but I feel like we live in this world that is cynical and wants to bash things," Golic said.
