Duke Energy: Power outage reported in downtown St. Pete
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A large power outage was reported in downtown St. Petersburg Friday evening, leaving thousands without power, according to Duke Energy.
What we know:
The power company said in a statement to FOX 13 that crews are now working to make repairs and reroute power to the impacted areas of downtown.
"Crews will continue working through the night until all service in the downtown St Pete area is restored," a spokesperson for Duke Energy said.
By the numbers:
As of 10:15 p.m., Duke Energy was reporting about 6,000 customers were without power. Duke's outage map was, at around 9 p.m., reporting at least 22,000 were without power.
What we don't know:
Officials confirmed that the cause of the power outage isn't known, but their main priority is getting the power back on for customers who are impacted.
"We apologize for the inconvenience the outage may have caused," the statement said.
