Ember, the shelter dog, has spent two years waiting for her forever home

PALMETTO (FOX 13) - For almost two years, Ember has called Manatee County Animal Services her home, but she is still looking for a more permanent residence.

She is a six-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix that was found roaming Bradenton. She was in poor health and nearly hairless, when she arrived at the shelter on July 5, 2016. 

Shelter employees say she is now “beautiful and healthy” but has just a little hair loss that continues to clear up as she receives occasional coconut oil rubs. She does have skin and eye issues that need ongoing treatment. The Friends of Manatee County Animal Services diagnosed her with ongoing dry eyes, and has been funding her eye drops. 

Volunteers say for the past two years, they observed her enjoying her time by playing in the yard, going on walks, relaxing on a couch and playing with her squeaky toys.

“Ember is a sweet older gal who has been overlooked in the shelter,” they said in a statement. “She is also very responsive to training and her handler. She knows sit, double paw, sit pretty, down and crawl. But most of all she loves to give kisses. She is a volunteer favorite!"

She also likes to dress up in hats and sweaters, and has obviously been in the St. Patrick’s Day mood with four-leaf clover headbands, a little green hat, and sunglasses.

They say she loves humans, but her story will truly be a success if she finds a forever home.
