HOLIDAY (FOX 13) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that involved a Pasco County deputy.
Troopers say it happened shortly after 12:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 and Darlington Road in Holiday.
The deputy was transporting a sheriff's office Explorer at the time. Preliminary information suggests a 98-year-old man driving a Ford Escape ran the red light, colliding with the deputy's vehicle. Both the deputy and the Explorer were taken to the hospital as a precaution and received minor injuries.
The driver of the Ford, 98-year-old William Vatalaro, was rushed to Bayonet Point hospital, but he did not survive.
The investigation continues.
