Nearly 4,000 people were without power Friday afternoon because of a fire that broke out at TECO Energy substation at 7350 Big Bend Road.

TECO officials said an explosion caused the fire, which had since been contained.

No injuries were reported.

The explosion and fire caused outages for nearly 4,000 people.

TECO said it hoped to get the power restored by 7 p.m., but the fire might continue burning through the night.

An official said mineral oil is used to keep the substation cool, but is now burning off.
