Forecast: More record-breaking heat
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Tampa broke more temperature records today, and it looks like there will be no immediate end to the warm weather.
Monday's official high temperature at Tampa International Airport was 88 degrees, breaking the record high for the day and tying the all-time high for the month. It also marked the 14th consecutive day of temperatures 80 degrees or higher in February, breaking the record of 13 days set back in February 1932.
And that streak won’t likely end soon. FOX 13 meteorologist Jim Weber says Tampa’s high temperatures will remain in the 80s for the next week or so.
“There’s just really no sign of any big changes,” he offered.
A big ridge of high pressure continues to build, shielding Florida from fronts pushing through the Midwest and the Mississippi Valley.
“We’re going to see lots of rain and lots of moisture to the north. But for us, it’s just gorgeous weather,” Weber continued.
The previous record high for the day was 86, set in 1891 and tied in 1997. The normal high temperature for this date is 73 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
