A standoff ensued after a man shot his neighbor in Lakeland Friday night, police said.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. at a mobile home park located at New Tampa Highway and Chesnut Road.

When officers arrived, they found 54-year-old Morris Parker with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect, 64-year-old Robert Van den Bosch, who is a neighbor of the victim, would not respond the police commands to come out of his home.

Officers deployed and robot that confirmed the suspect was inside his mobile home and armed with a gun. Police then used chemical agents and Van den Bosch immediately came out of his trailer.

Van den Bosch was arrested and charged with attempted murder and resisting arrest without violence. Earlier in the week, Lakeland police responded to a separate incident involving Van den Bosch, which also led to a standoff. He wasn't charged in that case.
